7 Tips for Remodeling Your Bathroom on a Budget

7 Tips for Remodeling Your Bathroom on a Budget

Bathroom remodeling can be costly but the good news is that it doesn't have to be. You can save a lot of money with some creativity and easy DIY projects. Here are 7 tips to help you remodel your bathroom in a budget-friendly way.

Tip 1: Set a budget and stick to it

This tip does not sound fun but it’s really important. Before you start a bathroom renovation or remodeling project, write down every expense that you can think of. Don’t forget the small items like tools that you might have to purchase to get the job done. This will help you determine right from the start what is feasible and where you might have to get a little creative.

Tip 2: Consider starting with something simple, like updating hardware or a faucet

Oftentimes small changes can make a huge impact in a space. Consider how simply updating a faucet might change the look of the room. Also consider how you might be able to make small changes over time rather than doing a complete bathroom overhaul all at once. This will really help with budgeting.

Tip 3: Create an accent wall

A great, budget-friendly project for any room is an accent wall. It immediately adds visual interest and can often be done for just the cost of paint. You can paint a color block design or install vertical shiplap. You could install board and batten. You could add peel-and-stick wallpaper. The options are nearly endless.

Tip 4: Don’t change the configuration

Changing plumbing and electrical will be expensive if you need to bring someone in to do it for you. Try to avoid making changes to the layout of your bathroom. Instead, add visual appeal and functionality in other ways.

Tip 5: Upcycle wall art and other decor

Rather than splurging on expensive wall decor or vases to hold greenery by the sink, head to your local thrift store. Find vases that you can spray paint and give new life to. Find frames or wall decor that you can upcycle by painting or adding homemade art to. When it comes to decor, definitely don’t splurge. Be thrifty.

Tip 6: Refresh with paint - on a lot of surfaces!

Paint is your best friend for budget-friendly remodeling. Think beyond the walls. You can spray paint old air vents and door knobs. You can paint tile, grout lines, towel holders and faucets. There are so many options for what you can paint. Just make sure to research it first to ensure that you are using paint that is appropriate for each surface. Using the right paint will help make it durable over time.

Tip 7: Splurge on statement pieces

Decide ahead of time what items you want to splurge on. These items should be statement pieces. In other words, they should be items that will make a huge difference in the look of your room. Some items like this could be bathroom vanities and mirrors. These are focal points in a bathroom.

The most important thing to remember when you are planning for a bathroom remodel is: Any budget can work! You do not need to spend $30,000 to have a beautiful bathroom. Plan ahead, stick to your budget and get creative with your DIY projects. I promise that you can create a beautiful bathroom in your home.
